“To Live and Dream in the Forest of Lights”

Jessica found herself stuck in some half-forgotten dream,
The world kept spinning and she couldn’t hear herself scream
She had no idea where she was or how she got there,
Constantly going in circles, blinded by the tree lights’ glare.

Each tree’s bulbs are in full bloom, shining light all around
The air is completely dead, except for an electric humming sound.
She can’t tell if it’s day or night, as the bright forest blinds her eyes
Dreamy memories keep popping in, but she can’t tell if it’s lies.

Suddenly she knows she was stranded, by her mother and father
She knew this day would come, since she was always a bother
Later on it seems illogical but in the dream it makes sense,
Left to die in the forest of lights, for an imaginary offense.

Each tree shines down like a thousand suns exploding in her face
She doesn’t know what she did wrong, and Something was giving chase
Running through the glowing trees, feeling like she deserves this fate
But as the Something grabs her, she realizes her parents used her as bait.

Jessica wakes up with a start, safe and sound in her bed
Glad it all wasn’t real, but the images are pounding in her head
While the memory of the dream is already fading away,
It still makes her feel guilty and anxious the rest of the day.
